Kakao Games Contributes 26 Billion KRW to Fund Domestic Indie Game Developers to Create a Healthy Game Ecosystem

- Kakao Games contributed to the ‘Go Together Kakao Games Win-Win Fund(Kona Venture fund III),’ which is worth 26 billion KRW

- The fund will be used to invest in and support domestic small-sized and indie game developers and promote the game market

 

[Aug. 17, 2022] Kakao Games (CEO Kye-hyun Cho) announced on the 17th that the company would contribute 26 billion KRW to domestic indie game developers through the ‘Go Together Kakao Games Win-Win Fund(Kona Venture fund III)’ to co-exist and create a healthy game ecosystem.

 

Kakao Games will participate in the ‘Go Together Kakao Games Win-Win Fund(Kona Venture fund III),’ a fund operated by Kona Venture Partners, to actively invest in and support domestic small-sized and indie game developers that have high development potential and are preparing to enter the global market.

 

This fund will invest in ▲ game developers that were established within the last three years with annual sales of two billion KRW or less, ▲ game developers with a game in its early stages of production (pre-test phase) and/or ▲ low-budget game developer with a total production cost of less than 500 million KRW. Developers that are preparing to enter the global market will be actively put into consideration when determining which developer to invest in. Application for the fund can be submitted in the business section of the Kakao Game website.

 

Investment candidates will be selected and determined in accordance with investment standards. Kakao Games, in cooperation with the fund operator Kona Venture Partners, will develop various methods that are unique to Kakao Games to collaborate with the selected developers.

 

As part of Kakao Game’s effort to achieve social responsibility and coexistence, the company supports small and independent game developers, and continues to provide support to establish a healthy gaming culture. Kakao Games operates numerous projects that are connected to the company’s main game business to promote the good influence games have. The company also holds various campaigns and operates a digital supporter’s program to improve digital accessibility for children and other groups who lack wider access to digital tools and technologies.

 

Kye-hyun Cho, CEO of Kakao Games, said “this fund was created as part of the Kakao community’s plan for mutual growth and co-existence, with the goal of achieving sustainable growth with society.” He also added that “Kakao Games will do our best to energize the game market by co-existing with independent game developers and by doing what Kakao Games does best.”
