Kakao Showcases Cutting-Edge Group Technologies at 2023 Digital Platform Expo

[November 23, 2023] Kakao has unveiled its participation in showcasing examples of public-private collaborations utilizing cutting-edge digital technologies such as AI, data, and cloud computing.
Kakao, led by CEO Hong Eun-Taek, along with its key affiliates, including Kakao Mobility, Kakao Brain, Kakao Enterprise, KakaoPay, and Kakao Healthcare, will be featured in the '2023 Digital Platform Government Expo-Government Innovation Fair' from November 23 to 25.
The event, co-hosted by the Digital Platform Government Committee and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, will run for three days at BEXCO in Busan. It will spotlight the digital innovations and public service advancements of 30 participating companies, highlighting the synergy between digital government platforms and private sector innovation.
Kakao has set up an array of exhibits and presentation sessions, focusing on how their technologies and services have enhanced the convenience and safety of everyday life.
Kakao Brain will kick off the presentations on the first day, November 23, with the topic 'Creating Public Services with Karlo.' Karlo, Kakao Brain's image generation model, is trained on a massive dataset of 290 million text-image pairs and is capable of producing unique images in various styles by understanding the content of user-provided prompts.
Kim Jae-In, Chief Strategy Officer, shared a public collaboration example of Karlo with the Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation (KOBACO). The 'Isaac' service, designed to assist small business owners in creating advertising storyboards, has integrated Karlo to enhance its functionality. This AI-driven feature translates text inputs into visual sketches.Kakao Brain plans to pursue various public collaborations in the field of generative AI.
In a combined effort, six Kakao affiliates – Kakao, Kakao Mobility, Kakao Brain, Kakao Enterprise, KakaoPay, and Kakao Healthcare – have established the 'Kakao Town' booth. This collaborative space, themed 'Digital Platform in Everyone's Daily Life,' not only showcases the companies' accomplishments but also offers interactive demos and service experiences to visitors.
Kakao showcases and demonstrates the KakaoTalk Wallet, featuring services like △electronic signatures, △electronic certificates, and △entry QR services. Visitors can experience the ease and security of electronic signatures through Kakao Certificates and the issuance and submission of various certificates via KakaoTalk.
The booth also hosts engaging activities, including an experiential section for electronic certificates and student ID issuance, as well as a prize-receiving event using the KakaoTalk entry QR service at an unmanned vending machine at the back of the booth.
Under the theme "Easier Mobility in Everyday Life," Kakao Mobility showcased its all-encompassing MaaS (Mobility as a Service) application, 'Kakao T,' which is designed to streamline mobility service. This app includes △dedicated transportation for the mobility-challenged (disabled call taxi service) and △a unified reservation system for KTX and SRT trains.
The 'Disabled Call Taxi' service, soon to be piloted as an integrated platform on 'Kakao T,' is connected with the government's mobility support platform for the physically challenged. The expo featured a demo video, offering a glimpse into the service's expected functionality. Additionally, 'Kakao T Train,' which offers one-stop access to route inquiries, reservations, payments, and even ticket gifting for all domestic trains, including KTX and SRT, is also available for experiential trials.
Kakao Brain set up an AI profile creation booth utilizing Karlo. Visitors could upload photos to the Karlo KakaoTalk channel and generate personalized AI profiles. An accompanying event awards prizes for sharing these profile pictures on social media with designated hashtags.
At the Kakao Enterprise booth, visitors explored 'Kakao Cloud,' the company's corporate cloud platform. This platform showcased an AI capable of generating images, allowing users to craft and visualize landscapes, seasons, and artistic styles. Kakao Cloud is poised to streamline the deployment of AI services requiring high-performance computing quickly and reliably. Kakao Enterprise aims to champion public and corporate advancements in cloud-native innovation, with Kakao Cloud playing a pivotal role.
KakaoPay displayed a suite of financial services powered by MyData. The exhibit included a 'Credit Score Improvement' service, designed to boost credit ratings by simplifying the submission of personal and public data, and a 'Loan Refinancing' service, enabling mobile comparisons, repayments of existing loans, and processing of new loans. 'Loan Refinancing' is a component of a government-led innovative finance initiative focused on delivering real interest savings to consumers.
Kakao Healthcare presented its tailored mobile healthcare and diabetes management services. Their booth featured 'Pasta,' a bespoke blood sugar management service integrated with a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), set to be released to the public on February 1 of the following year. Additionally, a special booth dedicated to pandemic response showcased 'eICU,' a real-time remote intensive care unit monitoring and consultation system, and drew significant interest from visitors.
Kakao CEO Hong Eun-Taek emphasized, “The KakaoGroup has consistently generated various public benefits and realized social values through technology and platform.
