[March 17, 2023] Kakao Tech Campus, the IT training program operated by Kakao (CEO, Hong Euntaek) was selected as a 2023 Youth-Focused ESG Support Project by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

A ceremony to celebrate projects selected as Youth-Focused Corporate ESG Support Projects and to commemorate admission into the Youth Growth Membership was held on March 17 at the Kakao Pangyo Agit, and was attended by Han Duck Soo, the Prime Minister of South Korea, Kwon Ki Sup, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and Hong Euntaek, CEO of Kakao. At this event, Kakao Tech Campus was selected as a Youth-Focused Corporate ESG Support Project, a project promoted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea.

Kakao Tech Campus is a program offered to regional university students and provides software training as well as project-based hands-on experience, nurturing them into junior developers who can immediately be inserted into real-work environments. Kakao Tech Campus was recognized for collaborating with regional universities and increasing employment and entrepreneurship without being limited by locational constraints.

Based on its ESG slogan to “make a better world with people and technology,” Kakao established the Kakao Tech Campus program this year to solve the imbalance of IT training, which is currently concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area and other select regions. Kakao developers and developers from other IT companies participate in the training to provide educational support, mentoring related to job search, special lectures, and code reviews. All participants receive an electronic certificate and opportunities to network with other program participants. Teams that excel in the program each receive a scholarship of 20 million KRW.

Kakao Tech Campus will partner with Pusan National University and Chonnam National University and operate the program from April to November of this year. A presentation of the Kakao Tech Campus program was provided on March 9 at each university, and has since attracted massive attention, with each university’s students, regardless of their current enrollment status, applying to be part of the program. In 2024, the program will expand to other regions and provide a wider range of training, including sessions on new technology.

“Kakao Tech Campus is a project aimed at supporting the youth of Korea by collaborating with prominent regional universities to share Kakao’s technology and know-how in order to nurture IT professionals in Korea” said Hong Euntaek, CEO of Kakao. He also added that “Kakao will continue to come up with ideas on how Kakao can contribute to society with what Kakao does best.” (End)
