[Dec 12, 2022] Kakao’s ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) management has been recognized worldwide.

Kakao, led by CEO Hong Eun-Taek, proudly announced its inclusion in the '2022 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World' for two consecutive years, proving its status as a global sustainable management company. Kakao has featured in the 'DJSI World Index,' along with the 'DJSI Asia Pacific Index' and the 'DJSI Korea Index' since last year. It stands out as a leading enterprise within the 'Interactive Media, Services & Home Entertainment (IMS)' sector among prominent online service companies.

Kakao scored top global ratings in various evaluation metrics, notably in ▲environmental policies, ▲talent development, and ▲corporate citizenship and volunteerism. The company has pushed for various ESG activities such as environmental policies including the Active Green Initiative and the Net-Zero goal announced with the establishment of its climate change response last April, coexistence programs like “Jegaburch” and SME support projects, and digital accessibility enhancement through the appointment of the DAO (Digital Accessibility Officer) for the first time in the Korean IT industry.

DJSI is a reputable sustainability assessment and investment index globally recognized for its comprehensive evaluation of a company's economic and ESG performance. It was created jointly by S&P Dow Jones, the world's leading resource for benchmarks and investable indices, and S&P Global Switzerland SA, which is the global sustainability assessment organization.

This year's DJSI World Index only included 326 companies, or 12.8%, out of the 2,555 global contenders based on market capitalization. Among them, 24 Korean companies were listed.

Meanwhile, Kakao has been actively implementing ESG activities in various fields since the creation of the ESG Committee under its Board of Directors in Jan 2021. In November, the company secured an integrated 'A' grade in the “2022 ESG Evaluation and Rating” announced by the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability (KCGS).

Yook Sim-Na, Head of Kakao's ESG Business Division, commented, "Our relentless pursuit of diverse ESG strategies as well as commitment to fulfill social roles and responsibilities have led to this achievement. We will continue to do our best to communicate with the society and obtain sustainable growth.” (End)
