Kakao’s Kim Beom-su to donate 2 Billion won for flood relief
- Donation to be given to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association for relief goods for flood victims and flood damage recovery.
- Kakao’s social contribution platform, Kakao Together, is facilitating fundraising for recovery from flood damage – Kakao will donate 1,000 won when a user writes a supportive comment, and 100 won when a user clicks “Cheer” or “Share” in the Fundraising Box page.
[Aug 12, 2022] Kakao is lending a warm hand to help the recovery from damage caused by heavy rain.
Kakao, led by Namgoong Hoon and Hong Eun-taek, announced on the 12th that the company will donate 1 billion won to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association through Kakao Impact, a corporate foundation of Kakao. Kim Beom-soo, director of Kakao’s Future Initiative Center, has also decided to personally donate KRW 1 billion. At the same time, the company’s social contribution platform, Kakao Together, is facilitating fundraising to help all citizens participate in the cause easily by opening an emergency fundraising box and encouraging users to make donations.
Kakao Together opened an emergency fundraising box on Aug 9 to raise donations for flood relief together with the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association and the Community Chest of Korea. With a high response from users, around 160 million won has been donated. The funds raised from this campaign will be used to provide relief goods such as bottled water, masks and shelter partitions to victims who were forced to evacuate their homes urgently due to heavy rains.
Users who want to participate in the cause can donate money directly to each fundraising box, or participate by writing supportive comments. Kakao will donate 1,000 won whenever a user writes a supportive comment. When a user clicks “Cheer” or “Share” in the Fundraising Box page, Kakao will also donate 100 won additionally.
Kakao CEO Hong Eun-taek said, “I decided to donate to help the victims who are suffering from the record heavy rain in 100 years,” and added, “We hope that recovery will be made soon and the victims will return to their lives. We look forward to seeing many users participate in the fundraising campaign through the Kakao Together fundraising box.”
Kakao Bank, a subsidiary of Kakao, also donated 142.76 million won for the recovery of damages caused by heavy rain and support for flood victims. Kakao Bank raised 32.76 million won through donations of 110 million won and a matching grant (joint donation) in which the company donated the amount raised by executives and employees.
Meanwhile, Kakao has been actively fulfilling its humanitarian aid and social responsibility, and demonstrating the company’s commitment to shared value. It has donated about 5.4B won for overcoming the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, about 1.4B won for the recovery from torrential rains, and over 2.6B won for the recovery from wildfires in Gangwon-do in March this year. Apart from these efforts, Kakao’s Future Initiative Center Director Kim Beom-soo also donated his personal stocks worth 2B won for overcoming the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, about 1B won for the recovery from torrential rains, and over 1B won for the recovery from wildfires in Gangwon-do.
