Kakao Named TIME World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024

- Kakao ranked 272nd out of 500 world’s most sustainable companies

- Kakao evaluated positively for various items related to sustainability

 

[June 28, 2024] Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced that it was selected as one of the world’s most sustainable companies of 2024 by TIME and data firm Statista. 

 

This year's “World’s Most Sustainable Companies” list included top 500 companies out of more than 5,000 longlisted companies, and Kakao ranked 272nd. A total of 15 Korean companies were included, and Kakao is the only Korean company selected in the ‘IT, Tech & Software’ industry category.

 

TIME evaluated the sustainability on the basis of the following: 20 or more key performance indexes related to the sustainability; data disclosed by companies, etc. Kakao was evaluated highly across ESG assessments from its CDP score to S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) and MSCI across the following items: GHG emission; relative energy consumption; renewable energy usage ratio; and continuous disclosure of sustainability information.

 

Kakao has been committed to various ESG activities. Kakao has endeavored to respond to climate change by procuring renewable energy for its offices, constructing eco-friendly data centers, etc. Also, Kakao publishes the “Kakao Stability Report” to provide its service in a stable way, and works to disseminate the value of diversity by publishing the “Kakao Diversity Report” as the first in the industry. Furthermore, Kakao practices its social responsibilities and develops its system for sustainability and coexistence by establishing the Kakao Compliance and Trust Committee for sound corporate culture and ethical management.

 

As a consequence of continuous activities stated above, Kakao belonged to the top 1% in the S&P Global CSA, and has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for three consecutive years. Also, Kakao scored CDP’s highest grade of ‘A’ in the carbon disclosure-related environmental assessment based on its endeavor to actively respond to climate change. 

 

President DY Kwon of the ESG Committee under the Corporate Alignment Council stated, “Kakao will reinforce its ESG management and carry out its social responsibilities to become a reliable enterprise,” stressing that “Kakao will continue to endeavor in various fields for its sustainable growth.” (End)
