[September 30, 2025] Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced its participation in AI Festa 2025, Korea’s largest AI festival. AI Festa 2025 is the flagship event for AI Week, which the Ministry of Science and ICT designated as the national strategy week to help Korea rise into the world’s top three AI powerhouses. The event is to be set at COEX through October 2.

 

Kakao will present a range of AI services and technology under the theme “Kakao AI for Me.” Exhibitions and demo zones explain functions and characteristics, letting visitors try them in the booth.

 

Kakao set Kakao AI Station as the booth’s main theme and organized the space into two zones: “Life” and “Possibility.” The Life zone lets visitors experience new AI services and functions, while the Possibility zone highlights AI models and the ecosystem platform.

 

The Life zone features booths dedicated to Kanana Summary, Kanana in KakaoTalk, and ChatGPT for KakaoTalk services. Kanana chat summary shows messages in the “unread folder” inside KakaoTalk “chat folders” in summarized form, letting you see key points at a glance without reading every line. Kanana call summary summarizes Voice Talk calls clearly and conveniently.

 

Kanana in KakaoTalk is an AI service based on an on device AI model developed by Kakao, and will begin testing in mid-October. It understands the context of your KakaoTalk chats and can send the first message when needed, helping users manage schedules, organize information, make reservations, purchase products, and more.

 

The zone also presents ChatGPT in KakaoTalk developed in partnership with OpenAI. Any KakaoTalk user can use the ChatGPT service in the Chats tab. Users can instantly share ChatGPT chats and generated content directly in KakaoTalk chatrooms, or seamlessly switch to ChatGPT in the middle of their KakaoTalk chats. This service is scheduled to be released in October.

 

The Possibility zone features booths dedicated to Kakao’s large language model (LLM) and multimodal large language model (MLLM), the AI agent ecosystem platform PlayMCP, and the AI guardrail model Kanana Safeguard.

 

Among its AI models, Kakao showcases an efficient language model with a mixture of experts (MoE) structure and the multimodal language model “Kanana-v” that understands text and images together. Visitors can test prompts to check performance and characteristics. PlayMCP is a beta open platform based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Anyone with a Kakao account can register an MCP server on PlayMCP and test it. Kanana Safeguard verifies the safety and reliability of AI services. It uses Kakao’s own language model as the base technology and a proprietary dataset that reflects Korean language and culture. The result is performance tailored to Korean.

 

A Kakao spokesperson said, “We created a space to experience Kakao AI services, functions, platforms, and models so users can get to know what AI in daily life means. We will keep working to discover differentiated usability through diverse technology and services.” (E.O.D.)
