[February 12, 2026] Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced its collaboration with Google to lead user experience innovation on Android devices by leveraging Google’s next-generation AI technology.

With this partnership, the two companies have agreed to work closely together to develop user experiences for Android XR-based AI glasses and mobile Android experiences integrated with the latest AI technologies.

Kakao will focus its capabilities on building interfaces optimized for next-generation form factors, such as AI glasses based on Android XR. In particular, the company plans to provide user experiences implemented through hands-free interactions and natural language processing for scenarios closely related to daily life, such as messages and calls.

Furthermore, Kakao will conduct optimization work with Google to ensure smooth operation of on-device AI services in Android mobile devices. This initiative will begin with “Kanana in KakaoTalk.”

“Kanana in KakaoTalk” is a service utilizing Kakao’s proprietary lightweight AI models, characterized by its ability to initiate a conversation first by recognizing moments of users requiring assistance. With understanding of the context of the user’s conversations within the device, it suggests schedule briefings, information guides, and recommendations for venues and products. The service has been in beta release since last October, with an official launch—including the Android version—planned within the first quarter.

“In a landscape where AI is rapidly diffusing into users’ daily lives, we have pursued this partnership to explore new opportunities by combining the technical strengths of both companies,” said Shina Chung, CEO of Kakao. She added, “Through this collaboration with Google, we expect to strengthen our technical competitiveness and provide users with a more advanced AI-driven daily experience.”

Karen Teo, Vice President of Android Platform and Device Partnerships for Google Asia Pacific, remarked, “We are pleased to further solidify our partnership with Kakao. This collaboration will serve as an opportunity to combine Google’s latest AI technology with Kakao’s proven innovation capabilities for Korean consumers. Both companies aim to provide useful AI technology to all Korean users.” (E.O.D.)
