- Daum established a strategic alliance with Skype, the Global Internet Telephony Company.
- The two companies will co-develop premium service based on the voice communications technologies of Skype.

December 6, 2004 -Daum Ccommunications (www.daum.net) announced that it built a strategic alliance with “Skype (Skype Technologies S.A,; CEO Niklas Zennstrom), the Global Internet Telephony Company, over the right to use the technologies of Skype.

The two companies agreed on offering the Internet telephony service of Skype in “Daum“ site as well as co-developing and co-marketing the premium service utilizing the technological prowess of Skype. In addition, the two parties decided to establish close cooperative relations to generate various profit models and future growth.

Daum and Skype made commitment to provide their Internet business know-how and technological expertise (VoIP) to each other for the expansion of the next generation platform. Thanks to the alliance with Skype, Daum can speed up the development of the next generation Internet platform including voice communications.

Voice communications refer to the use of voice over the Internet. It doesn?t only include real time communications like Internet telephony (VoIP) but also more advanced and wider use of voice such as voice recording, voice storage, voice recognition and information searching with voice. Daum, based on its powerful platform, plans to come up with new and various voice communications models including free PC to PC telephony service.

Lee Jae-woong, the CEO of Daum said "Daum“s alliance with Skype holds significant meaning as Skype is a company with technologies globally recognized." Skype is a global Internet telephony service (VoIP) provider whose headquarters are located in Luxemburg. In August 2003, the company opened the VoIP site Skype (www.skype.com) using P2P network. This site provides services in 15 different languages, and its program has been downloaded by 130 million users from 165 countries including the U.S., U.K., France and Japan.
