E-Commerce Tops W80 Trillion

Electronic commercial transactions surpassed the 80 trillion won-mark in the first quarter of the year for the second straight quarter as more companies are doing business online, the National Statistical Office (NSO) reported Monday.
Commercial transactions via the Internet amounted to 81.7 trillion won ($80.9 billion) in the first three months to March, up 17.8 percent from a year earlier, but dropped 6.6 percent from the 87.5 trillion won recorded in the previous quarter.
Business-to-business (B2B) transactions accounted for 90.1 percent, or 73.6 trillion won, of total e-commerce in the first quarter, jumping 19.9 percent from a year before.
Business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions totaled 1.9 trillion won, up 17.3 percent, while business-to-government stood at 5.8 trillion won, down 6 percent.
