AI for Everyone: Embedding ChatGPT into KakaoTalk
Kakao, one of the most influential tech companies in South Korea with 96% market penetration, has jointly launched ‘ChatGPT for Kakao’ with OpenAI, embedding ChatGPT directly into KakaoTalk.
The mission of ‘ChatGPT for Kakao’ is to bring AI into everyone's daily lives, combining Kakao’s extensive local ecosystem with OpenAI’s frontier technology. With ChatGPT for Kakao, users can not only access ChatGPT directly within KakaoTalk but also request AI tools for actions throughout Kakao’s diverse local services - maps, music, shopping, mobility, commerce, etc.
This represents significant advancement in extending AI’s role from conversation to personalized action request - seamlessly embedded within daily lives of 50 million users.

In February 2025, Kakao and OpenAI began developing ‘ChatGPT for Kakao’, embedding ChatGPT directly within KakaoTalk. ChatGPT for Kakao leverages both OpenAI’s frontier technologies and Kakao’s comprehensive ecosystem, and is tightly integrated with KakaoTalk functions - conversation, sharing, searching, etc. Both companies jointly worked together to embed real-time technology while reflecting distinct characteristics of the Korean market, engaging in comprehensive collaboration across all phases — from planning to development, launch and market penetration.
