Kakao Launches Private Group Communication App, KakaoGroup

[Seoul, Korea - September 5, 2013] Kakao, the provider of leading mobile social platform and mobile messenger KakaoTalk, today announced the launch of KakaoGroup, a private, mobile group SNS service that allows users to share updates, information and photos in a private mobile space. As a pioneer in the mobile messaging space that has revolutionized the private mobile communication culture, KakaoGroup is expected to take the lead in taking the messaging and group sharing experience to a new level.

 

KakaoGroup focused on providing as simple and intuitive an experience as possible so that users of all age and mobile savviness can easily create groups and share updates and photos with their select group of friends or family. To create a group, users only need to set a group name and cover image, and invite KakaoTalk friends to the group by tapping on ‘Invite Members’ on the ‘Members’ page. KakaoGroup invitations are sent to each member through KakaoGroup notifications or through KakaoTalk.

 

Since KakaoGroup is a private group communication service, the service designates the first creator of the group as ‘Group Host’ and empowers the host with the right to change the group name and group cover image. While any member in the group can invite other friends to the group, only the group host can oust a member out of the group. The host can always transfer the position to another member in the group of choice.

 

The service is ideal for groups of best friends to share and keep special memories, for couples to share hundreds of private pictures and secrets, or for sports clubs or school activity groups that have announcements to make or important information to share. Groups are especially useful for school projects, where there are key announcements or updates that should be archived and easily discovered, but the main conversation takes place within a chat room. Members of a Group can easily continue their conversation in KakaoTalk by touching the ‘Go to Group Chatroom’ in the Members menu. KakaoGroup is also useful because any updates on Group can be simultaneously shared with group members through the group’s chat room.

This again shows Kakao’s continuous efforts to listen to our users and develop our services to accommodate to their needs,” and continued, “Building on the experience and know-how accumulated through operating KakaoTalk and KakaoStroy, we tried to develop a service that is simple and intuitive so that the service can be used by anyone and everyone, and hope this will appeal to our users”

 

Meanwhile, KakaoGroup supports Korean and English, and is available in Google Play and Apple App Store.
