[Seoul, Korea - May 26, 2014] "Access 3 billion Stories, now through the web."

Kakao announced today the launch of a web version of KakaoStory, Kakao’s leading social networking service. The launch is accompanied by the addition of new features specially targeted to enhance user experience on the web, and the debut of Kakao’s second brand logo – its first app logo makeover.

The web version of KakaoStory perfectly replicates the design and key features within the mobile app. The uniform experience makes it super easy for users to go back and forth between the original mobile app version and the web version. All key features enjoyed on the KakaoStory app—sharing of text, photos or video, access to friends list, browsing friends’ recent updates, etc.—are also available on the web. In addition to the app’s original features, however, the web version offers functionalities designed and optimized for the web. Users can designate unique URL addresses for their individual My Story page, and designate specific posts to share with friends through various media.

Music sharing and listening features, provided in KakaoStory through KakaoMusic, have also been adapted for the web so that users can experience theirs friends’ music rooms while they browse through their stories. While KakaoMusic is only available as an app thus far, individual music rooms are available for view via the KakaoStory web version.

Meanwhile, KakaoStory also announced the first renewal of its brand logo since the original brand logo was adopted 26 months ago. The newly rendered logo, a symbol that delineates a quotation mark and a comma simultaneously, shows how Kakao dreams of KakaoStory becoming a service where people can share their stories with friends, while functioning as a reflective pause from the hurried pace of everyday life. The new logo is first applied to the Android version and the web version, and will soon be adapted for the iOS version.

A spokesperson for Kakao said, “The launch of the web version came from the hope of providing users with increased convenience in communicating and sharing with loved ones, in all environments.” They continued, “The KakaoStory team will continue to enhance the service so that users can share the small joys and happiness of everyday life.”

Users can access KakaoStory by visiting its official homepage http://story.kakao.com and logging in with their Kakao accounts (a registered email address). The web version is currently only available in Korean, but will soon be available in English and other languages as well.
