[October 28, 2025] Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced on October 28 that it is rolling out “ChatGPT for Kakao,” a service that enables direct use of ChatGPT on KakaoTalk.

 

ChatGPT for Kakao has been developed through close collaboration between Kakao and OpenAI, integrating the Korean company’s platform and services with OpenAI’s cutting-edge technology to deliver an innovative artificial intelligence experience to users. With ChatGPT now integrated into KakaoTalk, 50 million KakaoTalk users can easily experience AI in their everyday lives.

 

Users can access the service directly by tapping the ChatGPT button located at the top of the KakaoTalk chat tab. From simple questions to complex requests, ChatGPT can be used naturally and conveniently, just like chatting within the app. Users can share ChatGPT’s responses directly in chat rooms or ask the AI questions while chatting with others.

 

Those who already use ChatGPT through their OpenAI account can access ChatGPT for Kakao with the same account. New users can easily sign up using their Kakao account or try the service even without signing up or logging in. However, free users will be subject to usage limits, as with the standard ChatGPT service.

 

ChatGPT for Kakao delivers an even richer experience through “Kakao Tools,” an AI agent that connects seamlessly with various Kakao services. At launch, KakaoMap, KakaoTalk Booking, KakaoTalk Gift, and Melon will be included in Kakao Tools, automatically linking related services based on user requests to provide the most relevant results. For example, if a user asks, “Show me places that sell croffles near Hapjeong Station,” Kakao Tools will activate KakaoMap to provide detailed locations and information.

 

Kakao Tools serves as a key feature that makes AI more useful in daily life. It will first integrate services within Kakao and its affiliates before expanding its ecosystem through future collaborations with external partners.

 

ChatGPT for Kakao also prioritizes users’ data sovereignty, as users can freely choose whether to save their conversation history or allow their data to be used for AI learning, and all user information is securely protected under the privacy policies of both Kakao and ChatGPT.

 

To celebrate the launch, Kakao is also running a subscription promotion. Users who newly subscribe to ChatGPT Plus—the paid subscription plan—through KakaoTalk will receive a one-month cashback after their third-month payment. The promotion runs from the launch date through December 31, with limited availability on a first-come, first-served basis.
