- Enhanced AI experiences with message summaries for individual chatrooms and ChatGPT for Kakao now available on PC

- Convenient new features, including ChatGPT image templates and Open Chat chatbots (beta)

 

[July 15, 2026] Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced on July 15 that it has rolled out the sixth regular update to KakaoTalk (v26.6.0), introducing a range of new features designed to enhance user convenience.

 

First, KakaoTalk now offers message summaries within individual chatrooms, helping users quickly catch up on conversations they have missed. By tapping the “Chat Summary” button in a chatroom, users can get a quick overview of the key points from the messages they have missed. This allows users who return to a chatroom after some time to quickly catch up on the conversation and jump back in.

 

Kakao has also expanded ChatGPT for Kakao to the PC version of KakaoTalk. The history users have on mobile now carries over to PC, without requiring them to re-enter settings or repeat queries. The feature is accessible through the “ChatGPT” chip at the top of the Chats tab.

 

KakaoTalk also now lets users transform photos shared in chatrooms using ChatGPT Images 2.0. After selecting a photo in a chatroom, users can tap “Create with AI” in the upper-right corner and apply an image template of their choice, such as “Anime Style” or “Colored Pencil Drawing.” This feature allows users to easily transform photos shared in conversations into new formats, such as cartoons and illustrations, without having to save them separately. It is also available when creating a new post on My Profile.

 

New chatbots (beta) are now available in Open Chat, allowing users to get useful information without leaving the chatroom. Chatroom hosts can select and invite chatbots to their Open Chatrooms. Once invited, users can ask the bots about topics such as the weather and stock prices and continue chatting seamlessly.

 

KakaoTalk has also added a feature that allows users to delete messages sent through KakaoTalk Channels within 24 hours of sending. All new features included in this update are available on KakaoTalk v26.6.0 and later.

 

A Kakao spokesperson stated, “We have expanded the AI experience to make it easier and more convenient for users to access AI across the different ways they communicate on KakaoTalk. We will continue to enhance our services based on user feedback, creating a more natural linkage between daily communication and AI experiences.” (E.O.D.)
