[June 26, 2026] Kakao and KT Cloud are partnering to create a safe and trusted environment for AI technologies and services.
Kakao (CEO Shina Chung) announced on June 26 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KT Cloud (CEO Bonggyun Kim) to combine their respective technologies to build a safe AI ecosystem.
The two companies will leverage Kakao’s AI safety technology and KT Cloud’s AI infrastructure platform expertise to enhance the reliability of AI services and contribute to the development of a safe AI ecosystem. A signing ceremony was held on June 25, attended by Seung Kim, AI Synergy Performance Lead at Kakao, and Yongjoon Kong, Head of Cloud Division at KT Cloud. The two representatives discussed plans for collaboration under the agreement.
Under the MOU, the two companies will advance their AI safety technology initiative in three stages: development, validation, and expansion. In the first stage, Kakao will deploy its AI Safety Tools on KT Cloud’s AI platform, including Kanana Safeguard, its proprietary AI guardrail model—as well as a model safety evaluation system and a red teaming system. Kanana Safeguard assesses the safety and reliability of AI services and is already deployed across Kakao’s key AI services. It is optimized for Korean, leveraging proprietary datasets designed to reflect the Korean language and cultural context.
In the second stage, the companies will validate the model through real-world customer use cases and continue to refine it based on the results. In the final stage, the companies plan to jointly develop an integrated platform for managing AI Safety Tools, incorporating insights from real-world use to improve usability and expand the ecosystem.
Seung Kim stated, “We hope this collaboration, which brings together Kakao’s AI Safety technology and KT Cloud’s infrastructure capabilities, will help further strengthen the safety of Korea’s AI ecosystem. We will continue to work toward creating an AI environment that users can use with confidence.” (E.O.D.)
