Seoul, May 19, 2006 - Before the FIFA World Cup 2006, Korean Netizens plan to offer a challenge to make the world astonished, gathering at one place to show ‘Kkokjijeom dance cheering’. Kkokjijeom dance is a group rooting show to support the national soccer team to win games in the coming World Cup 2006.

Daum Communications today announced that its members would challenge a new world record for the dance festival part of Guinness Book with ‘Kkokjijeom dance cheering, at the southern park of Seoul World Cup Stadium from 6 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 26. Given as a part of ‘Daum Day 2006’ event, this challenge receives attentions from public, as the members intend to challenge a new world Guinness record with ‘Kkokjijeom dance’ recently popular among Koreans, as well as to hold a large scaled rooting event to pray the national soccer team to enter the semifinals at the FIFA World Cup 2006.

The challenge is targeted to People & Place ‘the world largest dance festival’ at the category of ‘History and Society, Guinness.

At the present, the world record for this part is a group dance consisting of 12,168 people at Hong-Kong in 2002. Since then, several challengers with various types of dances across the world have tried to break the Guinness world record, but no team has succeeded in passing beyond the record at Hong-Kong. It’s because it is very difficult to maintain the similarity in the posture of dancers when a multitude of people hold a dance festival. As a result, the attention is focused on whether this challenge will succeed.

However, still there shows high possibility in taking a new record, as over 2,000 citizens attending A match with Angola at Seoul World Cup Stadium last March participated in Kkokjijeom dance cheering initiated by Daum café members, which aroused lots of interest from home and abroad.

This challenge is meaningful especially in the point that it is voluntarily initiated by Netizens, based upon the writings of one Netizen requesting ‘Let’s continue the excitement of the World Cup 2002 by making Kkokjijeom dance as one of the Guinness world records!’ Backed up by the passionate reaction from Netizens, the event of challenging the world Guinness Book with KKokjijeom dance is set to be proceeded in cooperation with ‘the official café of KKojijeom dance for World Cup 2006’(cafe.daum.net/summitdance).

Inputting one’s personal record at the ‘Challenge! Kkokjijeom Dance Guinness (http://daumday.cafe.daum.net/0604_daumday/ggokdan_guinness.php)’ corner at the event page of Daum Day to get the certification from Guinness World Record, people of all ages and both sexes can join in this challenge for Guinness Record. And also the on-site participation after simple check with ID is available.

A representative from Korea Record Institute will be on the spot to precisely measure the number of participation, take pictures and record video, confirming whether the challengers make a new world record and then taking signatures of representatives from the organizer and challenger team for the written agreement submitted to Guinness World Record.

“With high interest on Kkokjijeom dance from the middle aged as well as young people, there is high chance to make a new world record for Guinness Book,” said Tae-Ho Kim, the manager of World Cup™ TFT at Daum Communications. “While we received the world attention through the cheering fever of Red Devil at the square in front of City Hall in 2002, this year it is expected that we are watched as a group united through Kkokjijeom dance cheering, enjoying the World Cup.”
